Participatory Media

Alexander Macfarlane has developed a portfolio of international experience in designing and delivering workshops and projects in participatory visual methodologies. Alexander has been trained in workshop facilitation and methodology by PhotoVoice (participatory photography), and InsightShare and Spectacle (participatory video).

Alexander's area of academic interest has focused on the role of communication practices in processes of social change, particularly in the urban context. Workshops he has helped plan and facilitate have built on the existing body of literature on participatory visual and storytelling methodologies in order to explore the interface between grassroots digital media practice and urban planning.
